The Standing Committee on Health met at 9:10 a.m. this day, in Room 701, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Joseph Volpe, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Ovid Jackson, Maria Minna, Karen Redman.
Acting Members present: Keith Martin for Reed Elley; Lynn Myers for Elinor Caplan.
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Nancy Miller Chenier; Sonya Norris, Research Officers.
Witnesses: From the M.O.R.E. Program of Ontario: Gary Cooper, Executive Director; From the Canadian Institute for Health Information: Daria Parsons, Manager, Clinical Data Services; From The Mutual Group: Robert Astley, President and Chief Executive Officer; Anne Côté-Kennedy, Director, Communications for the Canadian Customer Business Unit; From the University of Western Ontario: Dr. Bhagirath Singh, Professor and Chair; From Health Canada: Sandra St. Germain, Chief, Canada Health Act, Compliance and Administration, Health Insurance Division and Chair, Coordinating Committee on Reciprocal Billing; Bruce Davis, Director, Health Insurance Division.
Pursuant to Standing Order 108 (2), the Committee resumed consideration of its study on the State of Organ and Tissue Donation in Canada. (See Minutes of Proceedings dated Tuesday, December 1, 1998).
Gary Cooper, Daria Parsons and Robert Astley each made statements and, with Annie Côté-Kennedy, answered questions.
At 10:28 a.m., the sitting was suspended.
At 10:36 a.m., the sitting resumed.
Dr. Bhagirath Singh, Bruce Davis and Sandra St-Germain each made statements and answered questions.
At 11:55 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
