The Standing Committee on Health met at 3:41 p.m. this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Chair, Joseph Volpe, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Elinor Caplan, Ovid Jackson, Maria Minna, Bernard Patry, Karen Redman, Rose-Marie Ur, Maurice Vellacott, Judy Wasylycia-Leis.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Nancy Miller Chenier; Sonya Norris, Research Officers.

Witnesses: From the Toronto General Hospital: Dr. Paul Greig, Director of Liver Transplantation. From McGill University Health Centre: Dr. J.I. Tchervenkov, Director, Transplant Program. From the London Health Sciences Centre: Dr. Bill Wall, Director of the Multi-Organ Transplantation Unit. From the Canadian Cardiovascular Society: Dr Stuart John Smith, Medical Director, Heart Failure Clinic. From the University of Ottawa Hearth Institute: Dr. Wilbert J. Keon, Director General. From the Victoria General Hospital: Dr. Kevork Peltekian, Assistant Professor at Dalhousie University, Hepatologist at the Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre, Medical Director for Atlantic Canada Liver Transplantation Program.

 

Pursuant to Standing Order 108 (2), the Committee resumed consideration of its study on the State of Organ and Tissue Donation in Canada. (See Minutes of Proceedings dated Tuesday, December 1, 1998).

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

At 5:40 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
