MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 41

WEDNESDAY, May 13, 1998

The Standing Committee on Health met in a televised session at 3:35 o’clock p.m., this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Beth Phinney, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Elinor Caplan, Aileen Carroll, Reed Elley, Grant Hill, Dan McTeague, Lynn Myers, Rose-Marie Ur, Maurice Vellacott, Joseph Volpe, Judy Wasylycia-Leis.

Acting Member present: Keith Martin for Maurice Vellacott

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Odette Madore, Nancy Miller-Chenier and Gérald Lafrenière, Research Officers.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed consideration of natural health products. (See Minutes of Proceedings dated Thursday, November 20, 1997.)

Witnesses: From the Advisory Panel on Natural Health Products: Dr. Frank Chandler, Chair; André Gagnon, Member, National Association for Natural Health Products; Dr. William J. LaValley, Founding President, Canadian Complementary Medical Association; Dr. Mary X. Wu, Director, Toronto School of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Frank Chandler made an opening statement and with the other witnesses answered questions.

At 5:10 the sitting was suspended.

At 5:17 the sitting resumed in camera.

The Committee proceeded to consider its future business.

At 5:50 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
