The Standing Committee on Health met at 9:07 o’clock a.m., this day, in
Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Beth Phinney, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Aileen Carroll, Reed Elley, Grant Hill, Lynn Myers, Pauline Picard, Judy Wasylycia-Leis.
Acting Members present: Paul Szabo for Elinor Caplan.
In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Odette Madore, Nancy Miller-Chenier and Gérald Lafrenière, Research Officers.
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed consideration of natural health products. (See Minutes of Proceedings dated Thursday, November 20, 1997.)
Witnesses: From the Canadian Food Inspection Agency: Gerry Reasbeck, Director, Food Division; Bruce Bowen, Food Biologist, Food Division. From Health Canada: Harry Conacher, A/Director, Bureau of Chemical Safety. As an individual: Lorne Israelson, President, LDI Group & Executive Director, Utah Natural Health Products Association. From the International Development Research Centre: Roger Finan, Regional Director, South Asia; Gilles Forget, Program Administrator; Chusa Guines, Molecular Biologist.
The witnesses made opening statements and answered questions.
At 12:07 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
