Tuesday, February 24, 1998

 

The Standing Committee on Health met at 9:05 o’clock a.m., this day, in

room 701, La Promenade Bldg., the Vice-Chair, Elinor Caplan, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Carolyn Bennett, Aileen Carroll, Claude Drouin, Reed Elley, Grant Hill, Dan McTeague, Lynn Myers, Pauline Picard, Maurice Vellacott, Joseph Volpe, Judy Wasylycia-Leis.

 

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Odette Madore and Nancy Miller-Chenier, Research Officers.

 

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed consideration of natural health products. (See Minutes of Proceedings dated Thursday, November 20, 1997.)

 

Witnesses: From Global Botanical: Sandy Thuna, Owner; Joel Thuna, General Manager. From Planta Dei Pharma, Inc.: Ken Keirstead, President. From «L’Armoire aux Herbes»: Marie Choquette, Herbalist. From «L’Herbothèque Inc.»: France Lemaire, Director. From the Canadian Naturopathic Association: Dr. Lois Hare, Past Chair, Board of Directors; Heather MacFarlane, Executive Director. From the Canadian Complementary Medical Association: Dr. J. William LaValley, Founding President. From the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine: Dr. Paul Saunders, Associate Dean, Naturopathic Medical Affairs. From the Homeopathic College of Canada: Dr. Fernando Ania, President; Dr. Geoff Szymanski.

 

The witnesses made opening statements and answered questions.
