The Standing Committee on Health met at 3:33 o’clock p.m., this day, in
room 705 , La Promenade Bldg., the Chair, Beth Phinney, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Elinor Caplan, Aileen Carroll, Claude Drouin, Grant Hill, Lynn Myers, Pauline Picard, Rose-Marie Ur, Joseph Volpe, Judy Wasylycia-Leis.
In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Odette Madore, Nancy Miller-Chenier and Gérald Lafrenière, Research Officers.
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed consideration of natural health products. (See Minutes of Proceedings dated Thursday, November 20, 1997.)
Witnesses: From the Nonprescription Drug Manufacturers Association: David Skinner, President; Dr. Natalie Lazarowych, Technical Director, Ashbury Biologicals Inc.; Bendra Watson. From the Canadian Association of Chain Drug Stores: Ellen Mary Mills, Vice President, Policy and Public Affairs; Phil Rosenberg, Director, Pharmacy Operations, Hy & Zel’s Inc., Thornhill, Ontario; Sandra Aylward, Director, Pharmacy Affairs, Lawtons Drug Stores Ltd., Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. From the National Association for Health Products: André Gagnon, Spokesperson; André Aubé, Pharmacist & President, Regulatory Framework Committee; Michel Sasseville, Biochemist & Member of the Board; Pierre Morin, Counsellor.
David Skinner, Ellen Mary Mills and André Gagnon made opening statements and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.
At 5:20 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
