Tuesday, February 17, 1998

 

The Standing Committee on Health met at 9:05 o’clock a.m, this day, in

room 705 , La Promenade Bldg., the Chair, Beth Phinney, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Carolyn Bennett, Elinor Caplan, Aileen Carroll, Claude Drouin, Grant Hill, Lynn Myers, Pauline Picard, Joseph Volpe, Judy Wasylycia-Leis.

 

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Odette Madore, Nancy Miller-Chenier and Gérald Lafrenière, Research Officers.

 

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed consideration of natural health products. (See Minutes of Proceedings dated Thursday, November 20, 1997.)

 

Witnesses: From the Traditional Chinese Medicine Association of B.C.: James Knights, President. From the Canadian AIDS Society: Rodney Kort, National Programs Consultant. From the Fibromyalgia Society of Ontario Inc.: Lydia Neilsen, National President; Byron Timmermans, President; Philipa Corning, Vice-President, National ME/FM President; Jana Gagnon, Chapter 16 (Windsor). From the Maharishi Ayur-Veda College: Dr. Richard Wolfson, National Director. From the Sears Health Food and Fitness Shop: Donna Herringer, Vice-President, Sales and Merchandising. From Supplements Plus: Stewart Brown, Owner / President. From Natraceuticals Inc.: Lionel Pasen, Vice-President, Regulatory and Government Affairs. From Purity Life: David Chapman, President.

 

The witnesses made opening statements and answered questions.

 

At 10:30 o’clock a.m., the sitting was suspended.

 

At 10:35 o’clock a.m., the sitting resumed.
