The Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met in a televised session at 9:20 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Charles Hubbard, presiding.

Member(s) of the Committee present: Yvan Bernier, Claude Drouin, Wayne Easter, Charles Hubbard, Nancy Karetak-Lindell, Gar Knutson, Gary Lunn, and Peter Stoffer.

Acting Member(s) present: George Baker for Carmen Provenzano; Charlie Power for Bill Matthews.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Alan Nixon, Research Officer.

Witness(es):From the Focus Technologies Inc.: Dr. George Winters, Senior Fisheries Consultant; Terry Lomax, President; From the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador: The Hon. John Efford, Minister; Jerry Reid, Liberal Member; Kelvin Parsons, Liberal Member; Roger Fitzgerald, Conservative Member; Jack Harris, Leader of the New Democratic Party; Paul Shelley, Conservative Member. From the Canadian Sealers Association: Tina Feghan, Executive Director.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed consideration of Sealing Issues.

 Dr. George Winters made an opening statement and, with the other witness, answered questions.

At 10:17 a.m. the sitting was suspended.

At 10:28 p.m. the sitting resumed.

The Honourable John Efford presented a video and, with the other witnesses, made an opening statement and answered questions.

At 12:15 p.m. the sitting was suspended.

At 12:25 p.m. the sitting resumed.
