WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 18, 1998
The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration met at 3:35 o’clock p.m., this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Chair, Stan Dromisky, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Jean Augustine, Sarmite Bulte, Norman Doyle, Stan Dromisky, Raymonde Folco, Jocelyne Girard-Bujold, Louise Hardy, Steve Mahoney, John N. McKay, Grant McNally, Maria Minna, Deepak Obhrai and John Reynolds.
In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Margaret Young, Research Officer.
Witnesses: From the Department of Citizenship and Immigration: Greg Fyffe, Assistant Deputy Minister, Policy and Program Development; Brian Grant, Acting Director General, Enforcement Branch; Susan Leith, Director, Investigation and Removal, Enforcement Branch; Neil Cochrane, Director, Case Presentation, Enforcement Branch.
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee proceeded to consider Recommendation 155 of the Immigration Legislative Advisory Review Group Report entitled "Not just Numbers: A Canadian Framework for Future Immigration", particularly issues relating to removal and detention.
Greg Fyffe and Brian Grant made a few opening remarks and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.
At 5:40 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned until Thursday, February 19, 1998.
