The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-food met at 9:03 a.m., this day, in Room 269, West Block, Joe McGuire, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Paul Bonwick, Rick Borotsik, Murray Calder, Jean-Guy Chrétien, Denis Coderre, John Harvard, Jay Hill, Larry McCormick , Joe McGuire, Dick Proctor, Paul Steckle and Rose-Marie Ur.

Acting Member present: Odina Desrochers for Hélène Alarie.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch: June Dewetering, Research Officer.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee proceeded to the consideration of the ice storm and its aftermath.

Witnesses: From the Emergency Preparedness Canada: André Tremblay, Director General, Rediness and Operations. From the Department of Agriculture and Agri-Food: Andrew Graham, Assistant Deputy Minister, Corporate Services Branch; Doug Hedley, Director General, Industry Performance and Analysis Directorate, Policy Branch; Bob Ray, Vice-President, Public and Regulatory Affairs, Canadian Food Inspection Agency and Yvon Bertrand, Director General, Quebec Region, Canadian Food Inspection Agency.

André Tremblay, Andrew Graham, Doug Hedley and Bob Ray made opening statements and answered questions.

At 11:05 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
