Thursday, April 23, 1998
The Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development met at 11:15 o’clock a.m., this day, in room 371, West Block, the Chair, Guy Saint-Julien, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: John Bryden, Gordon Earle, John Finlay Nancy Karetak-Lindell, Gerald Keddy, Derrek Konrad, Judi Longfield, Bernard Patry, Guy Saint-Julien and Bryon Wilfert.
Acting Member present: Gilles Perron for Claude Bachand.
In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Jill Wherrett, Research Officer.
Witnesses: Assembly of First Nations: Mary Jane Jim-Cant, Regional Vice-Chief, Yukon; Dale Booth, Director of Economic. Business Development Bank of Canada: Jim Richardson, National Director, Aboriginal Banking. First Nations Bank of Canada: Keith Martell, Chairman.
In accordance with its mandate under Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study of Aboriginal Economic Development. (See Minutes of Proceedings dated Tuesday, March 24, 1998, Meeting No. 21)
Mary Jane Jim-Cant made a statement and, with Dale Booth, answered questions.
At 12:27 o’clock p.m., the sitting was suspended.
At 12:38 o’clock p.m., the sitting resumed.
Jim Richardson and Keith Martell made statements and answered questions.
At 13:17 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
