Mr. Coteau (Don Valley East), from the Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills and Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities, presented the 19th report of the committee, "Implications of Artificial Intelligence Technologies for the Canadian Labour Force". — Sessional Paper No. 8510-441-432.

Pursuant to Standing Order 109, the committee requested that the government table a comprehensive response.

Introduction of Private Members' Bills

Pursuant to Standing Orders 68(2) and 69(1), on motion of Mr. Shipley (Barrie—Springwater—Oro-Medonte), seconded by Mr. Reid (Lanark—Frontenac—Kingston), Bill C-389, An Act to amend the Excise Tax Act (automated external defibrillators), was introduced, read the first time, ordered to be printed and ordered for a second reading at the next sitting of the House.

The House resumed consideration of the motion of Ms. Freeland (Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance), seconded by Mrs. Valdez (Minister of Small Business), — That Bill C-69, An Act to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on April 16, 2024, be now read a second time and referred to the Standing Committee on Finance;

And of the amendment of Mr. Allison (Niagara West), seconded by Mr. Lehoux (Beauce), — That the motion be amended by deleting all the words after the word "That" and substituting the following:

“the House decline to give second reading to Bill C-69, An Act to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on April 16, 2024, since the bill fails to implement a commonsense budget that would:
(a) axe the carbon tax;
(b) build the homes, not bureaucracy, by requiring cities to permit 15% more home building each year as a condition for receiving federal infrastructure money; and
(c) cap the spending with a dollar-for-dollar rule to bring down interest rates and inflation, by requiring the government to find a dollar in savings for every new dollar of spending.”.
