THURSDAY, OCTOBER 9, 1997

The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met at 10:13 o’clock a.m. this day, in a televised session, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Bill Graham presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Sarkis Assadourian, Jean Augustine, Réginald Bélair, Scott Brison, Bill Graham, Gurmant Grewal, Ted McWhinney, Bob Mills, Julian Reed, Daniel Turp.

Acting Members present: Raymonde Folco for Colleen Beaumier; Louise Hardy for Svend Robinson.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: James Lee, Research Officer.

Witnesses: From the Global Network on Food Security: Hon. David MacDonald. From the Rural Advancement Foundation: Jean Christie, Director, International Liaison. From Oxfam Canada: Chisanga Puta-Chekwe, Executive Director; and Robin Walsh, Director of Communications. From Partners in Rural Development: Bruce Moore, Executive Director. From the Canadian Federation of Agriculture: Sally Rutherford, Executive Director. From Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada: Susan Mills, Director International Marketing Division.


Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee proceeded to convene a roundtable discussion on World Food Day.

The witnesses made opening statements and answered questions.

At 12:05 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
