MINUTES OF PROCEEDING
(Meeting No. 8)

Wednesday, October 29, 1997

The Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development met at 3:35 o’clock p.m., this day, in room 209, West Block , the Chair, Charles Caccia, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Bernard Bigras, Charles Caccia, Chuck Cadman, Aileen Carroll, Rick Casson, Yvon Charbonneau, Joe Jordan, Gar Knutson, Karen Kraft Sloan, Rick Laliberté, David Pratt.

Acting Member present: Clifford Lincoln for Roger Gallaway.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Kristen Douglas, Research Officer.

Witnesses: From Environment Canada: Ian Glen, Deputy Minister and Glen Allard, Director General, Special Projects, Environmental Protection Service. From the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency: Sid Gershberg, President.


The Committee discussed its future business.

It was agreed, --That a Sub-committee be struck for the purpose of recommending which chapters of relevant recent Auditor General’s Reports be taken up by the Committee and that this sub-committee be composed of Gar Knutson, Rick Casson and Rick Laliberté.


Order of reference: Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study of the harmonization initiative of the Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment. (See Minutes of Proceedings, dated Monday, October 20, 1997, Meeting no. 2)

Ian Glen and Sid Gershberg made opening statements and, with Glen Allard, answered questions.

At 4:05 o’clock p.m., Gar Knutson took the Chair.

At 5:40 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
