Acting Member present: Bob Speller for Roger Gallaway. In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Kristen Douglas, Monique Hébert, Research Officers. Witnesses: From the Mining Association of Canada: George Miller, President; Walter Sesgsworth, Chairman of the Board of Directors; Leonard Surges, Manager, Environment, Noranda Mining and Exploration Inc. Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study of the harmonization initiative of the Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment. (See Minutes of Proceedings, dated Monday, October 20, 1997, Meeting no. 2) The witnesses made opening statements and answered questions. At 3:39 o’clock p.m., the meeting was suspended. At 3:51 o’clock p.m., the meeting resumed. At 5:51 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
