ORDERS OF REFERENCE

Extract from the Journals of the House of Commons of Wednesday, June 12, 1996:

The Order was read for the second reading and reference to the Standing Committee on Natural Resources of Bill C-23, An Act to establish the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission and to make consequential amendments to other Acts.

Mr. Gagliano (Minister of Labour and Deputy Leader of the Government in the House of Commons) for Ms. McLellan (Minister of Natural Resources), seconded by Mr. Robichaud (Secretary of State (Agriculture and Agri-Food, Fisheries dans Oceans)), moved,--That the Bill be now read a second time and referred to the Standing Committee on Natural Resources.

Debate arose thereon.

The question was put on the amendment and it was negatived on division.

Accordingly, the Bill was read the second time and referred to the Standing Committee on Natural Resources.

By unanimous consent, it was ordered,--That, notwithstanding any Order of the House, debate on a motion to concur in the report of the Standing Committee of Procedure and House Affairs on the composition of Committees tabled earlier this day, be concluded no later than 1:50 p.m. today and that at the conclusion of the said debate, the motion be deemed to have been put and carried on division, and that the Standing Committee on Justice and Legal Affairs and the Standing Committee on Finance be permitted to hold organisation meetings later this day.

By unanimous consent, Mr. Zed (Parliamentary Secretary to the Leader of the Government in the House of Commons), seconded by Mr. Boudria (Glengarry--Prescott--Russell), moved,--That the 25th Report of the Standing Committee on Procedure and House Affairs, presented earlier today, be concurred in.

Debate arose thereon.

At 1:50 p.m., pursuant to Order made earlier today, the Speaker interrupted the proceedings.

Pursuant to Order made earlier today, the question on the motion was deemed to have been put and carried on division.
