The Standing Joint Committee on Official Languages met at 3:35 o'clock p.m. this day, in Room 705, La Promenade, the Vice-Chair, Benoît Serré, presiding.

Members of the Committee present:

Representing the Senate: Shirley Maheu, Jean-Claude Rivest and Louis J. Robichaud.

Representing the House of Commons: Cliff Breitkreuz, Michel Dupuy, Jean-Paul Marchand, Benoît Serré and Georgette Sheridan.

In attendance: From the Committees Directorate of the Senate: André Reny, Committee Clerk. From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Françoise Coulombe, Research Officer.

Witness: From the City of Ottawa Advisory Committee on French Language Service: Jean-Pierre Cloutier, President.

In accordance with its mandate under Standing Order 108(4)(b), the Committee continued its study on the application of the Official Languages Act in the National Capital Region (See Minutes of Proceedings and Evidence, dated Tuesday, November 19, 1996, Issue No. 10).

Jean-Pierre Cloutier made a statement and answered questions.

At 4:28 o'clock p.m., the Committee proceeded to sit in camera.

The Committee discussed its future business.

At 4:48 o'clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
